The sweetest BFF ever!

The fifth edition of Brasil FurFest with the theme “Haunted Hotel” was scheduled to take place between July 31 and August 2, 2020, at the Mercure Santos Hotel. In May 2020, the Brasil FurFest staff announced that, due restriction measures during Coronavirus pandemic, the event was postponed to 2021 from the dates of July 16th to 18th. The venue and guest of honor would be the same. On June 14, 2020, during a livestream on Youtube, the change of theme was announced and the new theme “A Fantástica Fábrica de Doces” was revealed. Furthermore, it was announced that an online event, called BFF Night, would be held on the day the event was held.

Mercure Hotel announced in June 2021 the closure of its activities, so the event was transferred to the Sheraton Santos Hotel from the 15th to the 17th of July 2022.

After 2 years without holding presential events, Brasil FurFest is back bigger and better, with the famous chairman of Antrocon, Uncle Kage as the guest of honor.

The accreditation opened the activities of Brasil FurFest on Thursday night, a novelty in relation to previous years. On Friday afternoon, the convention center was opened to receive furries that came from various parts of Brazil and abroad.

The opening ceremony showed a video about the times of the pandemic, paying tribute to the furries who died during that period. After the national anthem, a video parodying the movie “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory” was shown, followed by a tap dance performance by Centro de Artes Evolução. During the opening ceremony, two heads of fursuits were auctioned with proceeds going to SOS Vida Pet Litoral, the entity that benefited from the 2022 charity campaign. After the opening ceremony, a rave and the activity “Uncle Kage vs. Brazil” closed the activities.

Brasil FurFest featured social mixer dynamics, panels, workshops, a dealer`s den, an artist’s alley and the traditional Fursuit Parade, which for the first time was indoors. A dance competition opened the night, which was followed by a very lively rave.

Sunday was opened by the traditional fursuit games. Guest of honor Uncle Kage performed his famous Story Hour before the charity auction, which raised over R$ 33,000 in donations. The closing ceremony was one of the highlights of the Sunday, with an emotional speech by Uncle Kage and presentation of the 2023 theme and the guest of honor of 2023 filmmaker and youtuber Ash Coyote, which generated a festive reaction from the audience. After the official closing, a clip with the best moments was presented and the program continued with a round table of furry convention organizers telling funny stories from behind the scenes, in addition to the karaoke session and the dead dog rave .

The 2022 edition of Brasil FurFest had the largest audience recorded by the event so far. There were 874 furries from 11 countries. During the closing ceremony, as in 2019, the staff made room for the Furcamp event to present itself to the audience.
