What is Brasil FurFest?

A hotel furry convention in Brazil

Brasil FurFest, also known within the furry community as BFF, is a private, non-profit charity event held in the format of a weekend convention with a furry theme, organized by the Association of Artists and Enthusiasts of Anthropomorphic Arts (AAAAA). The event takes place annually in Brazil and, over the years, has been hosted in different cities and hotels. After historic editions in Santos and São Paulo, the 2026 edition will take place at the Premium Hotel in Campinas, 100km far from São Paulo, also marking the event’s 10th anniversary.

Brasil FurFest aims, among other goals, to raise funds for charity, supporting social initiatives focused on the care of animals in vulnerable situations. In 2025, the event raised over R$40,000 for charitable causes, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to social responsibility.

The event was created in 2016 by furries—enthusiasts of anthropomorphic arts, a form of artistic expression that blends human and animal characteristics—with the goal of providing a meeting point for the furry fandom, the community of artists and fans of this subculture. The convention was inspired by similar events held in the United States and Europe.

The original idea dates back to 2014, when its founders planned a hotel convention in Santos, SP under the name “Confursão” (São Paulo Furry Convention). To gain experience in organizing large-scale events, they created Furboliche, which for two years was the largest furry gathering in the country. After the cancellation of other national projects, the team decided to move forward with the convention, adopting the name Brasil FurFest.

The official announcement of BFF took place during the fifth edition of Furboliche, where the concept of the event was presented alongside the launch of a crowdfunding campaign. The initial funding goal was reached in just 13 days, confirming the event’s realization. The first edition took place from September 9 to 11, 2016, gathering 169 participants from across Brazil and abroad.

Since then, Brasil FurFest has experienced continuous growth in attendance, structure, and relevance. After the pause caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the event returned in 2022 and maintained its expansion trajectory. In 2024, it surpassed 1,100 participants, and in 2025 it reached 1,356 attendees, establishing itself as the largest furry convention in South America.

In 2023, the Association of Artists and Enthusiasts of Anthropomorphic Arts was formally established, becoming responsible for the organization and management of Brasil FurFest and its related initiatives.

Today, Brasil FurFest continues to grow, with expectations of surpassing 1,500 attendees in 2026. The event stands out not only as a space for artistic and cultural celebration, but also as an inclusive, welcoming, and diverse environment, particularly meaningful for communities such as LGBTQIA+ individuals and neurodivergent people.
