What is Furry?

Creating animal characters with human characteristics and all the culture around them!
Furry fandom is a community of people who enjoy creating art, stories, and original characters that combine human and animal traits—similar to what you see in many classic cartoons and films, including famous characters created by Walt Disney, such as Mickey Mouse, where animals talk, show emotions, and live like humans.
These people are called furries. Many of them create their own characters, known as fursonas, which function as creative avatars—a form of artistic expression, much like creating a character for a story, RPG, or drawing.
The community is mainly made up of artists, animation fans, writers, gamers, and creative people in general. Not everyone participates in the same way—each person engages in the way they prefer.
Some furries enjoy wearing costumes called fursuits, which are similar to mascots or cosplay and are usually custom-made to represent their characters. This is optional and represents only a portion of the community.
Like other hobbies (such as cosplay, anime, or comics), the furry fandom also organizes meetups and conventions. At these events, people socialize, take part in activities, watch performances, and share their artistic work in a safe and welcoming environment.
In Brazil, this community began growing through the internet in the 1990s and now brings together thousands of people, with events such as the Brasil FurFest, which takes place annually and welcomes participants from across the country.
